CloudEx Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the "Background Remover Pro" app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the Service, you are deemed to have agreed to the practices described in this Policy.
1. Our Core Principle
Background Remover Pro is an app that removes the background from a photo you choose. All image processing — subject detection, background removal, manual erasing and restoring, background replacement, and filters — is performed entirely on your device. Specifically:
- Your images are never uploaded to our servers. They are not sent to any cloud service for processing.
- We never view, store, or analyze the contents of your photos.
- The finished image is saved only where you choose to save it, and leaves the app only when you choose to share it.
If you use the share function to send a finished image to another app (a messaging app, a social network, cloud storage, and so on), that image leaves Background Remover Pro and is then handled under the privacy policy of the app or service you selected.
2. On-Device Background Removal
Background Remover Pro uses Google ML Kit Subject Segmentation to detect the subject of a photo automatically. The segmentation model runs on your device, and your photo is processed in your device's memory only.
To keep the app small, the model itself is not bundled in the app. It is delivered on demand by Google Play services, so the first time you remove a background your device may download the model from Google. That is a request for the model file only — the photo you selected is not part of it and is never sent.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information Collected Automatically
- Anonymous crash reports: Via Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes, we collect the stack trace, device model, OS version, and app version. This does not include personally identifiable information or the contents of your images.
- App usage statistics: Via Google Analytics for Firebase. We collect anonymous app usage events (such as the app being opened for the first time) together with device information and the device's advertising ID (AAID). We use this data to understand aggregate app usage and to measure the effectiveness of our own advertising campaigns (counting app installs that resulted from an ad). It is never used to display ads in the app.
- Version check: Via Firebase Remote Config and Google Play In-App Update, the app checks whether a newer version is available. Only configuration and store data is requested; no information about you is sent.
- Related-apps list: The app downloads a small JSON file listing our other apps from our own server. As with any web request, our server's access log records the IP address and the standard request headers of that request. We do not use these logs to build a profile of you.
- Purchase information: The app is distributed through Google Play, and all payments are processed by Google Play. We never receive any payment information such as credit card numbers.
3.2 Information Stored Only on Your Device
- The images you work on: The photo you select and the intermediate results of editing exist only in your device's memory and in the app's private temporary storage. They are removed when the app's cache or data is cleared, or when the app is uninstalled.
- The finished image: When you save, the image is written as a PNG file to the Pictures/BackgroundRemoverPro folder on your device. It stays on your device unless you share or upload it yourself.
- App settings: Preferences such as the state of the in-app guidance and the rating prompt are stored only on your device. They are erased when you uninstall the app or clear the app's data.
3.3 Information We Explicitly Do Not Collect
- The photos you edit, or any content, thumbnails, or metadata derived from them
- Location information such as GPS coordinates, including location data embedded in a photo's EXIF metadata
- Your other photos, or a listing of the contents of your gallery
- Phone number, contacts, calendar, microphone, or camera
- A history of the websites you visit or the contents of your communications
3.4 Permissions the App Requests and Their Purposes
Background Remover Pro requests as few permissions as possible, and uses them only for the stated purposes:
- Internet access (INTERNET) — Used for crash reporting, analytics, the version check, and the related-apps list. It is never used to upload your images.
- Read photos (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, Android 12L and earlier) — Used to open the photo you selected for editing. On Android 13 and later, the app uses the system photo picker instead, so no storage permission is requested and the app can access only the single photo you picked.
- Write photos (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, Android 9 and earlier) — Used to save the finished image to your device. On Android 10 and later, the app saves through Android's media store, so this permission is not requested.
Background Remover Pro does not request camera, microphone, location, or contacts permissions.
4. How We Use Information
The limited information we collect is used only for the following purposes:
- Operating and maintaining the Service
- Verifying purchases
- Understanding aggregate app usage and improving the app (analytics)
- Measuring the effectiveness of our own advertising campaigns (install conversion measurement)
- Diagnosing and fixing crashes
- Responding to support inquiries
- Complying with applicable laws
5. Third-Party Services
Background Remover Pro uses the following third-party services. Each service has its own privacy policy.
- Google Play services / ML Kit Subject Segmentation (Google LLC) — on-demand delivery of the on-device segmentation model
- Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) — anonymous crash diagnostic data
- Google Analytics for Firebase (Google LLC) — anonymous app usage statistics and measurement of our own ad campaigns (install conversions)
- Firebase Remote Config (Google LLC) — delivery of the latest-version information used by the update notice
- Google Play In-App Update / In-App Review (Google LLC) — update notices and the rating prompt
- Google Play (Google LLC) — app distribution and payment processing; payments are completed on the store platform side
Background Remover Pro does not display ads within the app and does not share your data with advertising networks in order to show you ads.
6. Data Retention
- Crash reports: retained for 90 days, then deleted.
- Analytics data: retained by Google Analytics for up to 14 months, then deleted.
- Server access logs: retained for a short period for security and operational purposes, then deleted.
- Support emails: retained for 12 months after the last reply, then deleted (except where legally required).
- Images and settings stored on your device: images you saved yourself remain until you delete them; the app's temporary files and settings are erased when you uninstall the app or clear the app's data.
7. International Data Transfers
We are based in Japan. The infrastructure used for crash diagnostics and analytics may be located in various countries. When you use the Service, the minimal information described above may be processed outside your country of residence under standard contractual safeguards.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you reside (e.g., the EEA, UK, California, Japan), you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the limited information we hold. You can:
